This mean that any number, that was used by the SoftRAID driver to determine what type of volume was in use, had to be swapped around right after it was read from disk and right before it was written back out. With the switch from PowerPC to Intel CPUs, the major change was that areas of memory which stored numbers larger than 256 were set up in the reverse order in the Intel CPU. There are just a few key areas we will have to change.
SOFTRAID REVIEW CODE
Just like the move from PowerPC to Intel, for this change, the majority of the code for SoftRAID will not require any changes. In anticipation of the Mac mini arriving next week, we have already started implementing the changes required to support this new CPU. We already have a Mac mini with Apple silicon on our way from Apple, we ordered it registered for one 5 minutes after the web page went live. So of course we’re going to conquer this transition as well. First the one was from Motorola 68000 to PowerPC and the second was from PowerPC to Intel. Let’s start with a little background on the team behind SoftRAID for Mac: We have already been through, not 1 but 2 processor architecture changes. Many of our customers are wondering: Is SoftRAID going to work on Big Sur? Will SoftRAID continue to work on Macs with Apple silicon?

There are still some issues, feel free to post any differences you see, but at least you can be working with SoftRAID now. We have performance optimization to work on for new volumes, but older volumes should be OK. We are releasing a M1 (Apple Silicon) version of SoftRAID today with the SoftRAID 6 beta. Furthermore, SoftRAID also makes it as easy as possible for you to validate the volumes associated to your disks.Philip – just stop this nonsense with RAID 0. SoftRAID is a great tool to have around if you want to check if all sectors from a disk are readable: if the app detects any errors the disk might fail in the near future. Test disks and validate volumes without having to deal with complex tools Using, SoftRAID you will be able to see the volume name, size, free space, type, if it is a RAID volume, when it was created, when it was last validated, the volume ID, and the i/o requests and errors. This way you can see if a volume is using a disk that presents errors. Check the RAID level and integrity of your volumesĪt the same time, SoftRAID is able to detected all available volumes, and lets you know which disk is used in each case. The same area will include an alert message in case the disk is predicted to fail. The SoftRAID app is also capable of identifying hard disks, SSDs, but also external drives connected via USB, Thunderbolt, FireWire, and so on.įor each disk, you are able to see the name, model, size and available space, the format, the SMART status, the number of reallocated sectors, the i/o requests or errors, and the hours of use. Within the SoftRAID main window, you are able to visualize the connected disks in the left panel, and the available volumes in the right one. Uncomplicated user interface for analyzing the status of the disks currently connected to your Mac In addition, you can use the app to quickly create and validate RAID volumes. SoftRAID is an easy to use yet powerful app that can perform disk tests and point out the ones that have errors. Keeping a close eye on your drives is essential if you do not want to be taken by surprise by a disk failure.
